What made you decide to do “Heartbreaker,” something very different from the rest of your acting o

In “Heartbreaker” (“L’Arnacoeur”), a romantic comedy that comes out today in New York, Duris takes an unexpected turn from the indies, dramas and youthful romps that made him famous. He plays the charming Alex Lippi, a man who breaks up mismatched couples for a living — the anti-”Hitch.” He’s assigned to disrupt the marriage of a woman played by none other than Vanessa Paradis. The Moment sat down with the actor to discuss his most recent loverboy venture.

Well, obviously, it’s always a challenge for an actor to do something less serious. I played a French playwright named Moliére in a movie once, and I like to think about him when it comes to comedies. You know, he didn’t want to write comedies because he wanted to be taken seriously, but in the end it doesn’t matter — just as long as it’s good. For “Heartbreaker Cheap Jerseys,” we wanted to highlight “romance” over “comedy.”

Romain Duris possesses every one of the irresistible  — and maybe a little stereotypical — qualities of a French sauvage: the swagger, the scruff, the inimitable unruly head of hair that would take hours of practice and pomade for a normal human being to pull off. Duris, 36, has been building on his considerable natural acting talent ever since he was picked off the street in 1994 by the director Cédric Klapisch for “Le Peril Jeune.” He’s played a gangster-turned-pianist in “The Beat That My Heart Skipped” (2005), France’s best-known playwright in the 2007 period piece “Molière” and a hopeless romantic in the durable study-abroad idyll “L’Auberge Espagnole” (2002). (He was also a T cover star in 2006, as the pride of our portfolio on French leading men.)

Do you have any favorite American romantic comedies?

In “Heartbreaker,” there’s a part where you perfectly play out the famous “Dirty Dancing” dance sequence with Vanessa. How many times did you have to watch the movie and practice?

Oh Cheap Jerseys, so many times … but luckily, I had a good trainer! It was fun!

There are talks of an American remake of “Heartbreaker” in the works. Who would you want to play the leading roles?

I am going to do a play in a theater in Paris, and then a project with James Gray. For Hollywood, it all depends on what it is — I’m open. I just don’t want to always be the “French lover!”

What’s on deck for you? Would you ever want to come over to Hollywood?

Will Smith! Reese Witherspoon!

How was working with Vanessa Paradis?

Really?

What made you decide to do “Heartbreaker,” something very different from the rest of your acting oeuvre?

Honestly, when [the director] Pascal Chaumeil first sent me the script, I turned it down. He was very persistent — he really wanted Vanessa and me for the movie. Finally, two months later, after talking to him and making a few adjustments, I started trusting him.

Recently, not really, but I liked the one with George Clooney — “Up in the Air.” Most of the romantic comedies I liked were from the ’40s and ’50s — I love Billy Wilder Cheap Jerseys, Frank Capra. …

It was fantastic. I had always wanted to work with her, and it was such a great time — especially with the rest of the cast. She was so refreshing, such a great listener. We had such a dynamic relationship, and it was never boring.
