WhatIWore: My favorite bookworm blogger, Jessica Hacker from Bits of Me, is back with another Bookish Type collaboration! She’ll tell you all about the book and I’ll share my wardrobe picks based on her review!
“Bond Girl” by Erin Duffy turns Wall Street, with a reputation for being stuffy and boring, into a highly entertaining and wild ride. I loved the main character, Alex Garrett. She is a 21-year-old who has wanted a job on Wall Street since childhood, and goes to work at a prestigious investment firm right out of college. She enters this gritty men’s world and is surprised when she has to deal with a tyrant of a boss, sexist colleagues and sleazy clients.
Alex works long hours- including parties with mandatory binge drinking, spurges on designer shoes and bags to treat herself, and (a little bit predictably) starts an office romance. Her co-workers play pranks on one another and make ridiculous, high-dollar bets that make for a really entertaining read.
Surprisingly, the book follows the financial crisis of 2008, and I found it interesting written from the point of view of an insider. Considering the author, Erin Duffy, worked in the bond industry during this time I wouldn’t be surprised if the book is more than a little autobiographical.
Ultimately, “Bond Girl” is a fun look at an industry that works hard and plays harder. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed “The Devil Wears Prada” or has an interest in Wall Street chick-lit.

From Jessica Quirk: Play shopping for this board with Alex’s budget instead of mine was a treat. When you’re looking at high end items online - keep in mind the concept, over cost. Boutiques like Net-A-Porter sell runway looks, but there’s always an opportunity to source out (or DIY) wallet friendly alternatives. I’m especially inspired by cute contrasting collars!
